Swimming out of the fish bowl
Each time I go, I come home with a more grounded perspective of life. How bloody lucky I am to be here.
I don't think equal opportunity truly exists at home, but it's even worse over there. When the chance came for him to prove himself, they stomp him down, just because they didn't like him? Really? Or was it because he was a simpleton who didn't understand the concept of bribery? I will never know if this is the case as he is probably too simple a person to have caught any hint.
He was dealt a tough card, but he's still going strong. It is true, they may not kick you down when you are in trouble, but they may not give you a hand either. He didn't get a helping hand and suffered a long and hard fall. I can't believe so many things happened in 2 years. How miserable they must have been. I must have looked really upset when we were talking and he had to cajoled me not to be. What? Getting comforted by someone who is going through shit right now? I asked if he has considered the other options, but being the fighter that he is, he says he is trying to stand up from where he has fallen. He will try again in winter. If it is not meant to be, he will move on. He's tough. She has committed suicide and he knows that's not the way to go. I'm proud of him. Of his strength and his big heart. He does not hate them. Instead he takes it as a lesson on life, on society.
I didn't know how best to ask if he needs anything, so I did it the SG way and asked outright.
"I'm a guy! Please consider my feelings. I have to help myself."
I couldn't push for it anymore. It's true. Human pride is important. The support he needs from me is not monetary.
I encountered their murky waters briefly, but I never knew how dark and sinister it could be. I've been circling around in the fishbowl for too long after I got home. Too darn comfortable. I'm thankful for the clear waters in my life so far. I need to swim out of the fishbowl. Hopefully what I encounter will be not be as dark as what he's going through now. Let's wait till winter. There could be something we can do to lift him out. He's keeping his chin up with hope and optimism. I should do the same too for my life.
Good luck, my dear friends. May you all emerge from the darkness soon.
